The Importance of Testing a Pattern
Share
I bet you saw the blog post that popped up about the fabric pull for quilt number 4. Well, I absolutely loved that fabric pull, however, after making quilt top, the results were not what I wanted this pattern to be...and it doesn't have to do with the colors, but rather the placement of colors and the layout of the blocks.
I have reworked the colors and layout, and it is sooo much better now! While some things are the same in the first sample quilt as the revised quilt, there is so much that has changed and will be much more fitting for what I have named the quilt. This is why it is so important to test your own patterns before having anyone else test it for you. The results just were not up to my standard. Now they are.
The great part about putting the sample quilt together, and not wanting to take it to the longarmer, is that I was able to learn some new skills using the quilting feature on my domestic sewing machine. Also, with every quilt I make, I always try to secure the binding in a different way. I did just that with that one, and it is now my favorite way to add binding, which I will show a little how to down the road. I also had to rewrite that pattern and redo many graphics, which is tedious, but I got it done.
The sample quilt is now a car quilt, which I think we should make more of as we don't always have a baby in our life to make a quilt for, but we all have a car. Stick around for the reveal of the new fabric pull for quilt #4. Should be fun!
Happy Quilting!
