Creating your own Color Palette
Share
OK, so you just picked out the perfect quilt pattern. Awesome! But now, you need to select a color palette and find some fabric you love. With so many colors and prints to choose from, where do you begin?
Start with a color that inspires you:
What color moves you? What color brings you joy and brings you to life? What color embodies the loved one you are creating for? If you don't know, go walk into a quilt shop and move towards something that strikes your fancy. What is the first fabric your eye catches? That is what you should start with. That first fabric selection could be the show stopper within your quilt, the background, or one of the supporting colors.
Next, select the rest of your palette:
So, with that first fabric color selected, decide if it is the main color, one of the supporting colors or the background of the quilt. Once that is decided, you can choose the rest of your palette. Maybe you can use the entire fabric collection from that first selection for your quilt to make your color selecting easy. Maybe you decide to select a bunch of random colors just because you love them. Maybe you decide to go with a color scheme like complementary or analogous.
Whatever you decide to go with for your quilt, know that it will be perfect because they are the colors that are your own and that you love. And when you finish the quilt, if you absolutely hate the colors, know that is it just growth and you have learned what you don't like within your own color palette. The colors you select will change as you move forward within your quilting journey. Just play and experiment to find the colors you love to use while creating.
